Celebrating Staff LogoEvery week we celebrate SMCDSB staff members who have been recognized by a parent, student or colleague.

This week we are celebrating Katie Aguanno and Serena MacFie.

Katie is a teacher at St. Angela Merici Catholic School. Katie Aguanno Katie was nominated by a colleague, who said:

“Ms. Aguanno is a fantastic Kindergarten teacher. We have been blessed that she has taught both of our children. Post pandemic, our daughter has struggled with transitioning back to school. Ms. Aguanno has continued to work with her everyday to help her overcome the challenges of going to school. When we pick her up, she can't help but talk about all the fun things she has done throughout the day and how awesome Ms. Aguanno is. We can't thank you enough for all the work you have done and continue to do.”

Serena MacFieThis week we are also celebrating Serena MacFie, a teacher at St. Joan of Arc Catholic High School. Serena was nominated by a colleague, who said:

“Lovingly known as Ms. JOA. Serena has been an inspirational leader. If there is a project, team, committee, or cause that needs assistance, she's the first one to volunteer. If it's you tubing techniques in throwing the javelin to installing and maintaining bike racks, Serena is there. She organized and implemented Virtual Science Bingo during the lockdown. With her husband they took on painting projects on weekends. She assisted in major events such as The Monsignor Clair Cup. She brought her class out to cheer on the athletes in the Knights Cup. Serena never hesitates to offer her enthusiasm, labour or creative ideas. She's an unsung hero of St. Joan of Arc!!!”

We would like to thank Katie and Serena for their commitment to Catholic education at our board.
