What is Dual Credit?


Who: Grade 11 and 12 students (Primary Target Group)

What: Earn both a college credit and a high school credit

When: Offered in the Fall, Winter, and/or Spring semesters

Where: At various Georgian College campuses across Simcoe County

Why:

  • To earn a credit needed for graduation

  • To re-engage students who are struggling with attendance or connection to school

  • To support a smooth transition to post-secondary education

  • To give Specialist High Skills Major (SHSM) students the opportunity to explore a course in their sector


Potential Candidates:


Priority given to our Primary Target Group - at-risk Grade 12 students, who:

  • Have numerous absences

  • Do not see a connection between school and future

  • Lack confidence

  • Lack engagement

  • Are unsure of their pathway

  • Are part of an SHSM program or Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP)

*Gr 11 students can participate should there be availability

 Program Details:

  • Two types of Courses 

  • 14 weeks - 3 hours once a week

  • 7 weeks compressed - 6 hours once a week

  • Students will miss high school classes on their Dual Credit day and will be responsible for catching up on missed work

  • Courses are led by a college instructor and students have support from a Dual Credit support teacher 

  • Classes are shared with other high school student in SCDSB and TLDSB(No college students are in the classes).

  • Transportation is provided from the home school to the college and back for classes. 

  • There is an application process through Guidance or Student success at your schools and students must be registered in an SMCDSB school.
