Celebrating Staff LogoEvery week we celebrate SMCDSB staff members who have been recognized by a parent, student or colleague.

This week we are celebrating Andrea Sturino, a teacher Andrea Sturino at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic School. Andrea was nominated by two parents, who said:

“Mrs. Sturino is the best virtual teacher we have had. She is super dedicated to her job and the students. I am so happy Emily was enrolled in her class. She has always taken extra time with the students and really does care. She tries to make the virtual experience similar to in class which is wonderful. They hosted a student talent show on off hours for Christmas with all the students and families. She is a wonderful teacher. I highly recommend her. ”

“Mrs. Sturino checks all the boxes you can hope for in an educator. She is kind, helpful, supportive and encouraging. She goes above and beyond for her students on a regular basis. She continues to put her students first at all times and these efforts are not unnoticed. We are beyond grateful to have had the opportunity to enjoy the time with her this school year and we hope our paths cross again in the future.”

Catherine WoodThis week we are also celebrating Catherine Wood, a teacher at Monsignor Clair Catholic School. Catherine was nominated by a colleague, who said:

“Catherine is an amazing teacher! She goes above and beyond in the classroom, ensuring she meets the needs of all of her students. She always has time to clarify concepts learned in class during recess, or after school. When she is not busy helping students academically, Catherine coaches our intermediate boys basketball team. She is dedicated to bringing school spirit to everyone! This year, Catherine started 'Clash of the Colours' planning fun monthly events that are accessible for students from Kindergarten to Grade eight. She hosted a school spirit assembly involving a staff minute-to-win-it game, where the high, up beat energy was felt amongst everyone - students, teachers, and parents who were in attendance. She is always thinking of ways to bring everyone together, and what more she can do to bring excitement and fun to keep the morale high amongst the school community. Working with a colleague who puts the best interests of her students and co-workers first makes for a great work atmosphere. Thank you for being you, and thank you for your dedication to Monsignor Clair, we are lucky to have you on staff!”

We would like to thank Andrea and Catherine for their commitment to Catholic education at our board.
