It's September which means.. BACK TO SCHOOL! Our first month has been exciting as new and returning students returned to our 50 Catholic schools to meet new friends and teachers.

At St. Dominic Catholic Secondary School (DOM) in Bracebridge, the classroom is not only a place for learning core subjects, but to prepare students for life in an ever-changing technological society.

How would you like to start your school year? Would you join a club? Try out for some school sports? Make new friends? Well how about being the DJ of your own morning radio show for the whole school to hear!? St. Peter’s Catholic Secondary School in Barrie, Grade 12 art student Shelly has been doing just that. Her radio show “Petey Panther Talks” debuted in the first few days of school, and since then has only been getting better each day.

For the past 15 years, the MaKala King Scholarship has been supporting students at St. Theresa’s Catholic High School in Midland as they pursue their post-secondary education.

At the first board meeting of the 2017-18 school year, our Catholic community welcomed new student trustee, McKenna McCoy. The meeting was held on Wednesday, September 20, 2017 at St. Dominic Catholic Secondary School in Bracebridge and included a Mass and the commissioning of McKenna into her new role by His Excellency Most Reverend Bishop Miehm.

The number of students currently registered to attend the 50 Catholic schools in Simcoe County and the Districts of Muskoka and Parry Sound has risen to 21,338, which is up by approximately 570 students from this time last year.

On Wednesday, September 20th the Board of Trustees for the Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board (SMCDSB) will host its first meeting of the 2017-2018 school year at St. Dominic Catholic Secondary School in Bracebridge.

Want to learn a new language? The Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board is once again offering our International Languages Program to students in JK to Grade 8. The program includes languages like Spanish, Italian and Tagalog. And the best part? It’s FREE!

On Sunday, September 10, 2017, Canadian flags will fly at half-mast for the first annual Firefighters' National Memorial Day.
