MARCH 6, 2019 - BARRIE, ON: There is currently a vacancy on the Board of Trustees of the Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board (SMCDSB) for Ward 1 (City of Barrie wards 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5). Former elected trustee Nate Brown has resigned from his position and the Board of Trustees has voted to fill this vacancy by engaging in a process to select and appoint a qualified candidate. The position is advertised on the Board’s website at www.smcdsb.on.ca/trusteevacancy.

“Nate is currently a full-time college student and it was becoming increasingly difficult for him to balance his studies with trustee responsibilities,” said Carol Corriveau-Truchon, Board Chair. “We know that he struggled with the decision to step down, but we certainly support him and appreciate that he needs to focus on his higher education. We wish him all the best in his endeavours at school and thank him for the contributions he made during his time on the Board.”

The Board is encouraging eligible and qualified candidates to apply for the vacant trustee position by March 29, 2019. Candidates selected for interview will be screened by a panel of existing SMCDSB trustees. The successful candidate will be selected by a majority vote by the Board no later than the regular board meeting scheduled for May 15, 2019.
