Patrick Fogarty Hosts Double Robotics Tournament

Patrick Fogarty Hosts First Double Robotics Tournament
Posted on 12/12/2019

It’s no secret that when it comes to robotics, Patrick Fogarty Catholic Secondary School in Orillia knows the ins and outs. The school recently hosted over 250 students from 63 Ontario schools for its first ever double VEX IQ robotics tournament.

Typically, all elementary students compete against each other in a blended tournament, but on Saturday, December 7 students were split into two tournaments - elementary (Grades 2-5) and middle school (Grades 6-8) to compete against others in their age category. This allowed for a fair chance to earn a spot at the provincial and world tournaments.

After an intense day of competing, five teams from each category qualified for the Ontario provincial championship. Participants, parents, coaches and judges were so impressed with the tournament that even the VEX national representative is going to use the double tournament as a model for other VEX IQ tournaments across Canada.

Congratulations to all competitors and a big thank you to City of Orillia Councillors who joined as judges for the day and to the students and staff who were crucial in the success of this event.
