During a snowy Wednesday, November 7th the Jags entered enemy territory- hoping to achieve victory in the Simcoe County District School Board headquarters in Midhurst, Ontario. Four senior members of the newly founded St. Joseph’s Debate Team took to the podiums, quickly securing victories in the first round of the tournament.

The Jags continued their push towards victory, with the duo of Griffen Armstrong and Brady Lorenz securing two more victories in hard fought debates. Finally, it came down to points awarded by the judges, and still the Jags remained relentless, conquering the public school board, and starting a legacy of talented young debaters.

“The debate team was so new, I don’t think we really expected to leave here with an award,” said Griffen Armstrong, half of the winning duo (Brady Lorenz being the other half.) “It’s really exciting though and I’m happy to bring plaques back to St. Joe's”.

This tournament also marked a historical milestone for our school; it was the first time since the 1960’s that a debate team from St. Joe's competed in a debate tournament.

The St. Joseph’s debate team is young, ambitious, and are looking forward to future arguments, rebuttals, and if all goes to plan, victories.
