Coldest Day WalkWritten by Bianca Lenssen, Student Journalist

Although spring is just around the corner, chilly days seem to be sticking around. And cold temperatures bring back memories of a special event for students at Patrick Fogarty Catholic Secondary School (PF) in Orillia. On February 21st, 2019, PF students participated in the Coldest Day Walk.

The Coldest Day Walk is a school-adopted version of the Coldest Night Walk that is popular in many communities to raise money and awareness for homeless people.. Students were asked to donate a toonie to wear a toque for “Crazy Toque Day” as a way to raise funds for this important cause.

Mr. Pellarin's Outdoor Recreation class guided the group of walkers from our school and through the roads of downtown Orillia. Before the walk, there was a short presentation in the gym explaining the history behind the Coldest Night Walk, and students were saddened to learn how common homelessness is in our society. They walked with determination and hope that they might make a difference.
