Celebrating 150 Years of Faith & Community

Celebrating 150 Years of Faith & Community at St. Paul the Apostle Parish in Alliston
Posted on 01/23/2025

One of the things that make Catholic education so special is the connection between home, school, and parish. This partnership helps nurture our faith and create a strong sense of belonging. Each partner plays a very important role—home is where faith begins, school is where it grows, and the Parish is where it becomes strong through worship and community. As a team, we support one another on our spiritual journey.

St. Paul the Apostle

This year, St. Paul's Catholic School, Holy Family Catholic School, St. Cecilia Catholic School, and St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Secondary School have the opportunity to help prepare for the 150th anniversary celebration of St. Paul the Apostle Parish.

Starting in May, the Parish community will kick off a year of monthly activities for all ages to celebrate shared faith, community and the Parish's rich history. As part of the preparations, the Parish is encouraging students to participate in two exciting contests:  logo design and poster creation. Please see the details below:

1. Logo Design Contest

Using any medium, students are encouraged to create a logo that embodies St. Paul’s journey and his role in spreading the Christian faith. The logo should:

  •  include symbols that represent St. Paul, Christ, the Church, and the Eucharist
  • be inspired by St. Paul’s journey from conversion to sharing God’s word (resources can be found on YouTube and PowerPoint presentations online)

  • be meaningful, simple, uncluttered, and convey a message without words (students might consider using a school logo or the board or archdiocese logo as a guideline).

The logo will be featured on all communication materials throughout the year, including posters and prayer cards. The winning design will receive a prize from the Parish.

Deadline: Monday, February 24, 2025

2. Poster Creation Contest

The Parish would also like students to create a poster for the anniversary celebration. The theme for the poster is “Walking in Faith With Christ”. The poster should:

  • illustrate St. Paul’s spiritual journey, Christ, the Church, and our community

  • incorporate the theme

  • include the name “St. Paul the Apostle Parish,” and “150th Anniversary”

  • be created on 11”x17” paper using materials like watercolours, pencil crayons, or acrylic paint.

Judges will select four winners from different age groups (primary, junior, intermediate, and senior), and they will professionally produce and display the winners' posters in the church.

Deadline: Friday, February 28, 2025

Entries will be collected from each school by a representative from the Parish. Good luck to all participants!
