MAY 16, 2019 - BARRIE, ON: At the Board of Trustees meeting last evening, Joe Zerdin was appointed as the new Catholic school trustee for Ward 1 Barrie (Wards 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5), effective immediately. Following the resignation of former trustee Nate Brown, the Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board trustees voted to fill the position by engaging in a selection process. The position was publicly posted and advertised so that qualified applicants could be shortlisted for interviews by the Board of Trustees. Following interviews, trustees selected Trustee Zerdin by a majority vote.
“The selection process was extensive and we were pleased to receive so many qualified applicants,” said Carol Corriveau-Truchon, Board Chair. “The trustees look forward to having Joe at the Board table - throughout the process we were impressed with his commitment to Catholic education, especially through his active participation on school and community councils.”
“Joe’s appointment to this position comes at a good time since we are busy with budget deliberations and many end of year student and staff celebrations,” said Corriveau-Truchon. “We are thrilled to be back at full strength at such a critical time for education and we certainly look forward to the experience he will bring to the table.”
“I have been involved with Catholic education as a volunteer at the school level for the past 14 years. When the opportunity to serve as trustee arose, I felt a calling to take the next step,” said Trustee Joe Zerdin. “I feel honoured and blessed to play such an integral role in supporting Catholic education in my community.”
The Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board has 50 schools and provides an exceptional faith-filled learning environment to approximately 22,000 students. The Board encompasses a large and dynamic region serving small towns, rural areas and urban centers and is blessed to be located in one of most beautiful natural settings in the province.
