I know she will make our Board incredibly proud as she fulfills the duties of this role.”

Nicole will remain in this elected position for a three-year term and then return to the SMCDSB in September of 2021. In her role as Chair of the eighth College Council, Nicole will play a significant role in regulating the teaching profession and fulfilling the legislated mandate of the OCT.

"As I embark on this new leadership opportunity as the Ontario College of Teachers eighth Council Chair, I look fondly on my collegial relationships with my Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board family,” said Nicole van Woudenberg, OCT Chair of Council. “I am proud of the dedicated educators who are committed to authentic inclusion to reach every student, especially those with special education needs and I am grateful for the support I have received from my colleagues at the Board."

“This is such a wonderful accomplishment for Nicole and I know she will provide tremendous insight and leadership for the College of Teachers, as well as for the entire teaching profession,” said Brian Beal, Director of Education.  “As the Chair, Nicole has taken on an awesome responsibility in regulating the teaching profession and providing support to more than 265,000 teachers in the province of Ontario.
