Every week, we celebrate SMCDSB staff members who have been recognized by a parent, student or colleague.
This week, we are celebrating Sarah Clarke, a teacher at

Our Lady of the Bay Catholic High School. Sarah was nominated by a colleague who said:
“Sarah has recently taken on the role of Head of Department of Mathematics at OLB. She has been a student at OLB and has been on staff for 17 years.
Sarah is a remarkable leader who dedicates her lunch hour every single day to helping students of all ages strengthen their understanding of mathematics. She consistently strives for excellence in critical thinking and problem-solving, always encouraging students to push beyond their comfort zones and reach their full potential. With high expectations and clear, consistent rules, she models professionalism and academic integrity in everything she does. Sarah mentors new teachers and organizes math contests at OLB each year. Sarah is approachable as a leader and mentor to the math department, problem-solving, and offering an environment where all voices are heard and contribute to growth in the department. Beyond school, she generously volunteers countless hours with hockey organizations and still finds the time and energy to support her three boys, driving them to their many sports and commitments. Her dedication—to her students, her community, and her family—is truly inspiring.”

This week, we are also celebrating Raquel Carvalho, a teacher at Holy Cross Catholic School. Raquel was nominated by a colleague who said:
“We are incredibly grateful for Raquel's support this year. She truly goes above and beyond to provide the kids with stability and engaging activities. Her creativity has brought her lessons to life through hands-on projects and thoughtful adaptations that have sparked genuine excitement in the children. Her dedication, kindness, and enthusiasm have made a lasting impact, and we truly appreciate everything she has done for our class.”
We would like to thank Sarah and Raquel for their commitment to Catholic education at our board.
