Every week, we celebrate SMCDSB staff members who have been recognized by a parent, student or colleague.
This week, we are celebrating Laura Hevia, a teacher at

St. Joseph’s Catholic High School. Laura was nominated by a student who said:
“I would like to nominate my French teacher for Employee of the Week because her dedication and teaching skills helped all of us pass the DELF examination. She consistently created engaging and effective lessons that made learning French enjoyable and accessible. Beyond academics, she has inspired us to dream big and care deeply for others, encouraging kindness and ambition in equal measure. She embodies many virtues such as patience, compassion, and perseverance, which she models every day. Her personalized support ensured no student was left behind, motivating us to believe in ourselves. Thanks to her commitment and inspiring example, our entire class achieved success in the DELF exam and grew as individuals.”

This week, we are also celebrating Jessica Vicary, a financial analyst at the Catholic Education Centre. Jessica was nominated by a colleague who said:
“Intelligent, hardworking, friendly, and empowering — Jessica, we are so lucky to have someone like you. Her ability to make complex financial matters clear and approachable is truly remarkable. Time and again, she provides thoughtful, effective solutions with grace and professionalism. No matter the challenge, Jessica consistently offers support that benefits everyone, always with a warm and welcoming smile. We are incredibly fortunate to have her expertise and positive presence. Thank you, Jessica, for being you!
