Every week, we celebrate SMCDSB staff members who have been recognized by a parent, student, or colleague.
This week, we are celebrating Kylie Allan, an elementary
math facilitator at Academic Services. Kylie was nominated by a colleague who said:
“Kylie Allan, elementary math facilitator, has transformed interdisciplinary learning through the OPSBA-funded eStim (Coding en Français) initiative. In addition to her demanding role supporting math across multiple schools, Kylie has dedicated herself to designing CEFR-aligned lessons where students use French to program Lego Spike robots. Her greatest impact is her seamless collaboration with the FSL Department; she provides a technical "safety net" while actively working on her own French proficiency, modelling the growth mindset she expects from students. Feedback from teachers and students has been overwhelmingly positive, noting that her leadership has turned French class into a hub of authentic, high-tech innovation.”
This week, we are also celebrating Zacchary Labas, a teacher and special education resource teacher (SERT) at St. Monica’s Catholic School. Zacchary was nominated by a colleague who said:
“Zacc has been an incredible colleague and friend. Ever since I joined St. Monica’s, he has been welcoming, supportive, and always ready to listen. He is someone I can turn to when I need to vent, and he consistently offers thoughtful advice and helpful strategies.
Zacc is an outstanding friend, teacher, and coach. He connects easily with everyone around him and brings such positive energy to the workplace. He is always smiling and genuinely happy to be at work, which makes a difference for both staff and students. Zacc also loves his Rubik’s cubes!”
This week, we are also celebrating Leo Nicolaou, a
custodian at St. Marie of the Incarnation Catholic School. Leo was nominated by a parent who said:
“I would like to recognize our school custodian for the care, dedication, and pride he brings to our school every day. His hard work helps create a clean, safe, and welcoming environment where our children can learn and thrive. Beyond this, he is always friendly and approachable with students and parents, greeting everyone with kindness and a smile that truly makes the school feel like a community. A well-kept school makes such a difference, and knowing our children are in a space that is genuinely cared for brings great peace of mind. His efforts do not go unnoticed, and our school community would not be the same without him. Thank you for being such an essential and valued part of our school.”
We are also celebrating Rosmarie White this week, a vice principal at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic School. Rosmarie was nominated by a colleague who said:
“Rosie White is an example of what a great vice principal should look like and impossible to forget. Her leadership style is a perfect mix of her passion, kindness and strength, which sets the standards. Her dedication to our students goes far beyond her job description. Rosie is so compassionate, and her guidance has truly changed lives in the community, which in return has embraced her with so much love. Working with Rosie has been a highlight in my career. She leads with humility and is a true inspiration. She is truly someone who sees the good in everyone.”
