Celebrating Staff logoEvery week we celebrate SMCDSB staff members who have been recognized by a parent, student or colleague.

This week we are celebrating Janice Smith, a teacher at Janice Smith Sister Catherine Donnelly Catholic School. Janice was nominated by a colleague, who said:

“Janice is a dedicated and outstanding teacher who goes above and beyond to ensure her students have meaningful and intentional programs. She gets to know each of her students thoroughly and provides individual and authentic lessons to meet their strengths and needs. Janice also gives up her own time to coach and provide extra curricular activities at our school. She is always willing to share her expertise with her colleagues. Janice puts her students first and works tirelessly to help them achieve their highest potential. I have been blessed to be her colleague as well as a 'parent' of one of her students. You are AMAZING Mrs. Smith!”

This week we are also celebrating Mark Latour, a custodian at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic School. Mark was nominated by a colleague, who said:

Mark Latour“Mr. Latour is an amazing school custodian. He is kind, friendly, and inclusive to all staff members and to all of the students. Mr. Latour always goes the extra mile whether it is setting up terrific school displays for Remembrance Day or setting up for breakfast with Santa, a school tradition. He visits the class daily to clean and to say a good morning to the children. Mr. Latour makes the school feel like a home.

I will give you examples of how he goes above and beyond. When I was preparing for the Christmas Concert he lent us everything we needed to make cardboard guitars and even found a guitar in the school we could trace to create ours. When we were having trouble getting a wreath to stay on our door he gave us a hook.

His retired wife, a former teacher at the school, is so lovely as well. She came in and cooked for the entire school as a special treat. They make a beautiful team. Thank you Mr. Latour for all that you do! The school is very lucky to have you.”

We would like to thank Janice and Mark for their commitment to Catholic education at our board.
