Every week, we celebrate SMCDSB staff members who have been recognized by a parent, student or colleague.
This week, we are celebrating Aynslie Hahn, a teacher at

Holy Cross Catholic School. Aynslie was nominated by two colleagues who said:
“Aynslie Hahn is truly the heart and anchor of our school — the steady, creative force who keeps our community inspired, supported, and connected. With her thoughtful and original ideas, she transforms our daily, weekly, and monthly routines into fun, themed experiences that give us teachers a much-needed moment to breathe, laugh, and reconnect beyond the classroom walls. These meaningful touches offer us a refreshing escape, moments that remind us of the joy and heart in what we do.
On a personal level, Aynslie is the definition of kindness, generosity, and support. She has a remarkable way of making you feel truly seen and cared for, even in the busiest moments. She checks in without being asked, offers help with sincerity, and shows up with quiet strength and thoughtfulness. Her presence is a reassuring reminder that we are not alone — that someone genuinely stands with us, every step of the way.
What I cherish most about Aynslie is her grounded, authentic confidence — the kind rooted in self-awareness, individuality, and grace. She embraces what makes her unique and stands proud in it, and that kind of presence doesn’t just uplift, it inspires.
Aynslie doesn’t just support a school — she nurtures a community, and because of her, we are all better, brighter, and stronger. I am truly and deeply grateful for her.
Aynslie is the leader of our school! Whenever something needs to be done, Aynslie is the first to step up. Whether it's helping with the grade 8 graduation, HCC's 25th anniversary celebration, or just everyday activities, Aynslie is always happy to help! Inside the classroom, Aynslie is passionate, kind, and caring to all her students; she always wants her students to succeed to be the best version of themselves. We are so lucky to have you here at HCC Aynslie!”

This week, we are also celebrating Olivia Duck, a teacher at Sacred Heart Catholic School. Olivia was nominated by a colleague who said:
“I have had the pleasure of being an EA in Ms. Duck's grade 7/8 classroom. She is a wonderful teacher who cares about her students. She provides snacks ( as many students in her class either do not have lunches or do not have enough food). She shows compassion, patience, and kindness in her class daily. She is very respectful and friendly to the staff at our school. She spends many recesses in the classroom giving students a chance to work and have extra support. She also volunteers her time with the music club and crochet club. Ms. Duck is a wonderful teacher and person.”
We would like to thank Aynslie and Olivia for their commitment to Catholic education at our board.
