Picture a sunny September morning. Homes are buzzing with the excitement of the first day of school. Backpacks are ready to go. Children are eager to see friends that they've missed over the summer. Little Sarah is taking her first steps into a world of learning and friendship. It's her first day of Kindergarten at one of the 42 vibrant Catholic elementary schools under the Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board (SMCDSB). This year, we're thrilled to welcome not just Sarah but approximately 1,500 young learners turning 4 in 2024.

Board Chair Maria Hardie shares, “Each new school year brings a buzz of excitement. Imagine the joy of making new friends and discovering through play. It's the start of a journey that cultivates a lifelong love of learning. That's the adventure awaiting our kindergarten students!”

Frances Bagley, Director of Education, adds, “Our doors are wide open to nurture the unique talents and abilities of our youngest learners. We're not just teaching. We're fostering a community grounded in faith and learning.”
SMCDSB's Kindergarten program is a full-day, play-based learning experience. Our approach nurtures independence, responsibility, self-esteem, and Gospel values. This lays a solid foundation for each child's future.

We invite parents and guardians to join our community. Visit your local Catholic school or the Kindergarten section of our website at smcdsb.on.ca/kindergarten for resources and registration details. Discover more about our kindergarten experience through the “It’s Time for Kindergarten” article, or tune into our podcast episode on SMCDSB’s Beyond the Bell.

Let’s embark on this exciting journey together!
