Every week we celebrate SMCDSB staff members who have been recognized by a parent, student or colleague.

This week we are celebrating Shelly Vaccari and Harold Regan.

Shelly is an educational assistant at Holy Cross Catholic School in Innisfil. She was nominated by a colleague, who said:

“Shelly has created a school program for our school, which actively works toshelly vaccari provide knowledge and inclusion of one of our special needs students. Shelly, along with this student, visits a number of classrooms on a weekly basis to inform our students of the various exceptionalities and ways in which they can display empathy within our school. Our students have welcomed this program and have become much more aware and comfortable, not only with this particular student, but all members of the school community with special needs.”

Harold Regan is a teacher at St. Joseph's Catholic High School in Barrie. He was nominated by a parent who said:

“Mr. Regan is an outstanding teacher who really takes a genuine interest in all of his students.  He has taken our son under his wing and really inspired him to work hard, love what he is doing, and be confident in his abilities.  Our son Clayton has a learning disability and Mr. Regan, sees Clayton for the person he really is - not just a student with a disability.  Mr. Regan accommodates Clayton but also pushes him to work to his potential. When students are inspired, cared about, and encouraged - they blossom! Mr. Regan is a master at doing this.  Every night our son comes home and excitedly tells us about History class with Mr. Regan.

We appreciate that Mr. Regan values the importance of increasing a student's self confidence.  Mr. Regan also communicates with us via email to help keep us in the loop. We appreciate his time, effort, kindness, and support that he provides every day.  Please express to him how much he has changed our son's views on school. He definitely deserves to be recognized.”

We would like to thank Shelly and Harold for their commitment to Catholic education at our board.
