Every week we celebrate SMCDSB staff members who have been recognized by a parent, student or colleague.

This week we are celebrating Suzanne Spence, Stacey Carriere and Melanie Barkell.

Suzanne is a teacher and Stacey is a DECE at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic School insuzanne spence Elmvale. They were nominated by a parent, who said:

“Mrs. Spence is my child’s Kindergarten teacher and Ms. Carriere is the DECE. Mrs. Spence and Ms. Carriere are such a great team: they are passionate about creating a welcoming and engaging classroom environment. We are so amazed by all of the care and thoughtful attention that goes into daily classroom activities; but we are also grateful for all of the extra things that they do outside of the classroom. Some highlights of stacey carrierethis year were the songs the class performed at the Christmas concert, getting ready for the star of the day, math night, and the poetry recital! Our child started the year quite shy, and it’s a true testament to Mrs. Spence’s kindness and inclusive spirit that she is thriving so well at school. Thank you!”

Melanie Barkell is the principal at St. Jean de Brébeuf Catholic School in Bradford. She was nominated by a colleague, who said:

“Melanie Barkell is new to our staff. She has gone above and beyond to make connections with every student and to ensure she makes everyone feel welcome. Melanie is always available and willing to help at the drop of a hat. She is very present in our school melanie barkellcommunity, joining the students outside at recess (even in the winter!) as well as giving up her time to allow students to practice for our talent show and sporting events. Melanie has spent a lot of her own time updating our school and making it feel like home. She is a very selfless person, putting everyone’s needs before her own. We appreciate everything she has accomplished in our school this year!”

We would like to thank Suzanne, Stacey and Melanie for their commitment to Catholic education at our board.
