Every week we celebrate SMCDSB staff members who have been recognized by a parent, student or colleague.

This week we are celebrating Tara Vanderloo and Gary Jermey.

Tara is a teacher at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic School in Innisfil. She was nominated by a parent, who said:

“Mrs. Vanderloo was born to teach. She is kind, caring and goes the extra mile to make sure each child’s needs are met and that parents always feel welcome and encouraged to participate in their child’s learning. When my husband had unexpected surgery this fall, she went out of her way to offer support to not only my daughter, but our family. We appreciate and value all of her efforts in the classroom!”

Gary Jermey is a custodian at St. Joseph's Catholic High School in Barrie. He was nominated by a colleague, who said:

“I would like to recognize Gary for always being a team player and for looking after the building in any way he can. He is always smcdsb logohappy to help and has a smile on his face all the time. I’d also like to give him a big shout out for possibly saving our lives tonight when he noticed water dripping down the electrical panels in the co-op room. Without hesitation, he acted quickly and professionally, called the 24hr emergency maintenance hotline, and solved the problem right away. It is a great honour to have the pleasure of working with him everyday. He makes St. Joe’s a great place to work. Thanks again for all you do, Gary.”

We would like to thank Tara and Gary for their commitment to Catholic education at our board.
