Christmas Week at St. Theresa's

Once again the Christmas season snuck up on the students of St. Theresa’s Catholic High School in Midland. The long awaited holiday is now a happy memory but first Christmas Week organized by student council got everyone in the spirit.
On Monday, December 16th classes brought back the tradition of decorating classroom doors for Christmas. Classes were judged on their creativity, and incorporation of both red and green colours as well as including a 3D element like tinsel. The top prize went to Ms. Reesor’s class whose door was decorated as the train from the Polar Express. All the teachers and students who participated went above and beyond to make this decorating competition the best yet.
Tuesday; the second day of Christmas week, was the Gingerbread house competition during second period. This year judges saw some tastefully done traditional houses, and the Grade 10 Art class’s abstract creation, but as with everything there could only be one winner. This year’s champion was Mrs. Dalziel’s Grade 12 Challenge and Change class with their imaginative ‘Santa’s Ginger-beach House’. After a long night of delivering presents to all the children of the world, we’re sure Santa must also be looking forward to his own holiday full of seas and greetings. Continuing with the day’s theme of sweet treats, Tuesday afternoon students were served free cake in the foyer lunch at junior and senior lunch, complements of student council, to celebrate Jesus’ birthday.
The Christmas Assembly, the culmination of Christmas week takes place every year on the Thursday before Christmas holidays. It is a time that students get to showcase their many talents to the rest of the student body. Outstanding musical acts were given by the Academy of Funk, and Mr. Mei’s vocal class. In addition, back for the second time, was Richard Peddle, who wowed everyone with his geography genius. Richard could locate any country on a map, that was pulled randomly out of a hat! Every year the teachers and staff make a special video to wish the students a merry Christmas. The past two years they have made a carpool karaoke lip sync. This year the staff decided to change things up and went with a TikTok compilation. The teachers and staff starred in short clips doing funny dances that got everybody laughing. We can’t wait to see what next year’s theme will be!
