Next week from May 7-13, schools in the Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board will participate in mental health and mental illness awareness activities in their municipalities to commemorate Mental Health Week.

This year marks the 68th annual Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) Mental Health Week and the 100th anniversary of the Canadian Mental Health Association. These organizations remind us that mental health is more than mental illness. One of five Canadians live with mental health problems, but five out of five people have mental health, just like we all have physical health. We all benefit when we celebrate, promote and acknowledge the role that good mental health plays in living a full and meaningful life.

Mental Health Awareness Week also coincides with Catholic Education Week. The variety of activities that happen in our school communities during Catholic Education Week have a big impact on our staff and students as they see the connection of spirituality and their mental health.
