The Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board is deeply saddened by the loss of one of its former Catholic trustees. On January 19, 2018, Clayton Ferguson passed away at Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre in Barrie at the age of 68.

SMCDSB welcomed Clayton in 2005 as appointed trustee for Adjala-Tosorontio, CFB Borden, Essa and New Tecumseth where he was elected for two terms, serving until 2014. He became Vice-Chair of the Board in 2010 and served as Board Chair from 2011 to 2013.

Ferguson most recently worked at Everest College as Manager of Student Finance in Barrie. Outside of work, he held a first-degree black belt and was known to practise karate and was also a private pilot.

Clayton is remembered as a “dear friend, a kind and gentle man, a wonderful trustee and Chair of the Board, and both a great champion and fierce protector of Catholic Education,” says Brian Beal, Director of Education.

Ferguson leaves behind his wife of 39 years, Helena, and their son Christopher.

Visitation will be held Friday, Jan. 26, at the Steven R. Bridge Funeral Home in Angus from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.

Mass of burial will take place Saturday, Jan. 27, at 11 a.m. at the St. Joseph Chapel, 535 Dieppe Rd., CFB Borden.
