Community Joins to Make Nyna Comfortable

Holy Trinity Catholic High School in Bradford West Gwillimbury has recently joined forces with community partners to make a young student comfortable in her daily life.

Grade 12 student Nyna has Rett Syndrome - a rare genetic neurological and developmental disorder that affects the way the brain develops, causing a progressive inability to use muscles for eye, body movements and speech. She needs to be positioned at an incline in order to properly breathe and requires a specialized wheelchair and hospital bed.

Nyna’s current hospital bed is a rental that has broken and does not accommodate her needs. In an effort to help Nyna and her family, an Educational Assistant at Holy Trinity has set up a GoFundMe page in hopes of raising enough money to purchase Nyna a new bed. Another staff member reached out to his local firefighters who often raise money through a variety of events. Once they heard of Nyna’s story, they unanimously voted to donate $1000 to help with the purchase of a new bed and recently paid a visit to her family’s home to present the cheque.

We would like to extend a big thank you to the community for the generous donations to help one of our students. If you would like to help Nyna, please consider donating to Nyna’s GoFundMe page to help in the purchase of a new bed.
