Black History Month at SMCDSB
Posted on 02/02/2018

Officially recognized in Canada since 1995, every February, Canadians are invited to participate in Black History Month festivities and events that honour the legacy of Black Canadians, past and present. Federal, Provincial and Municipal governments all recognize the importance of Black History Month and as Canadians we take this time to celebrate the many achievements and contributions of black Canadians who, throughout history, have done so much to make Canada the culturally diverse, compassionate and prosperous nation it is today.

For 2018, the theme of the Government of Canada’s Black History Month campaign is Black Canadian Women: Stories of Strength, Courage and Vision.

Students and staff throughout the Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board will be exploring and celebrating these incredible individuals throughout the month of February.
