MAY 5, 2017 - BARRIE, ON: Last evening, the Ontario Association of School Business Officials (OASBO) awarded Glenn Clarke, Controller of Plant from the Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board (SMCDSB), with its most prestigious recognition. Clarke was recognized at OASBO's annual general meeting with the 2017 McCordic Award, which is presented to one individual annually for making an outstanding contribution to the service of school business. Glenn oversees the operations, maintenance and construction at the SMCDSB and is recognized as a leader in the school board community for his work in a range of areas.

Among his various accomplishments, Glenn was a member of the Provincial Expert Panel on School Capital Standards, where he was able to share his extensive construction knowledge to shape the direction of new school construction. He was also instrumental in the development of a Contractor Safety Program, which has been adopted by other boards. And most recently, he spearheaded a review of the Construction Lien Act, which resulted in several changes to the proposed legislation. This ultimately benefited not only JK to 12 school boards across the province, but also the broader education sector.

His nomination included letters of support from colleagues from across the province.

"Glenn has served OASBO and the Operations Maintenance and Construction (OMC) committee with distinction and dedication for 20 years," comments Steve Shaw, Systems Facilities Officer at the Toronto District School Board. "Glenn gives freely of his time . . . sharing his knowledge and expertise to a wide range of school officials."

"He is always able to provide good insight and advice on virtually any construction related issue. He is our go-to-guy for construction related questions and comments . . . he is a leader in facility management and his advice is sought by not only OASBO members, but also the Ministry of Education, trustee associations and post-secondary institutions," said Dave Fowler, Manager of Facility Services at Limestone District School Board.

"Glenn is a highly respected leader, both with his own school board and across the province," comments Giacomo Corbacio, Superintendent of Facility Management Services at Halton Catholic District School Board. "I experienced first-hand Glenn's exceptional work and leadership in the establishment of provincial benchmarks and standards for school facilities when we were members of the Ministry of Education's Expert Panel on School Capital Standards."

While Glenn has undoubtedly dedicated a significant amount of time advising, consulting and improving maintenance, facility and construction matters on a provincial scale, he is also recognized for his leadership at the SMCDSB, where he has developed one of the most efficient school facility operations in the province.

"We are so fortunate to benefit from Glenn's expertise and leadership at our board," said Brian Beal, Director of Education. "I have worked closely with Glenn on our board's Education Leadership Council for many years and I can't think of a more worthy recipient of the McCordic Award - Glenn is respected by his industry peers and is admired by his staff and colleagues here at the SMCDSB. His contributions to our board are immeasurable and I am delighted that he is being recognized in this way."
