Catholic Board Highlights Skilled Trades at Annual Competition

MARCH 6, 2017 - MIDLAND, ON: On Wednesday, March 8th, students from across the Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board (SMCDSB) will have the opportunity to showcase their talents at the annual Skilled Trades Competition. Students will spend the day working on projects, which highlight their knowledge and competency in a skilled trade category. The end product will be judged by local experts in the field and winners have an opportunity to represent their school and SMCDSB at the Skills Ontario competition in May. 

WHO: High school students from across the SMCDSB 

WHAT: SMCDSB's annual Skilled Trades Competition featuring students competing in TV/Video production, photography, 2D and 3D animation, graphic design, carpentry, baking, automotive, hairstyling, aesthetics and cabinetmaking.

WHERE: St. Theresa's Catholic High School - 347 Galloway Blvd, Midland, ON

WHEN: Wednesday, March 8th from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. - best photo opportunity between 10 a.m. and noon

WHY: To help grow and promote Ontario's skilled trades and technologies workforce. This contest gives students a first-hand opportunity to celebrate their unique skills and get excited about a post-secondary future in the growing skilled-trade sector. 

PHOTO OPPORTUNITY: See the students in action as they style hair, bake, participate in a team carpentry project or make a cabinet - between 10 a.m. and noon.
