One of the amazing programs that the Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board offers to students is the dual credit program. Dual credit is a course where students receive a college and high school credit at the same time and is taught by college faculty and supported by a high school teacher.

Students who take the course are able to explore options for their future after secondary school. We are happy to showcase some of the success stories that are a result of the dual credit program.

Emma O’Neil is a Grade 11 student at St. Dominic Catholic Secondary School in Bracebridge. She always had a great interest in criminology and learned that there was a course available at the college level. The Dual Credit program provided Emma with the opportunity to experience post secondary education while studying a subject that she was truly interested in.

Emma’s time in the program allowed her to travel to the Georgian College campus in Orillia  once a week to experience the post secondary lifestyle. She was able to speak to students currently enrolled at the school and gained a better understanding for what college education has to offer.

Without the Dual Credit program, Emma says that she wouldn’t have been able to take a course that she’s always been interested in. The experience gave her the confidence and discipline to pursue an education at the college or university level.
