On Thursday, November 16, 2016, the Inside Ride, a childhood cancer fundraising event was added to the Jean Vanier Catholic High School’s annual calendar.

A number of students came out to raise money for the Coast to Coast Against Cancer Foundation, who distributes 100% of all donations to programs and charities they support. Nine brilliant, energetic teams dressed up in humorous costumes to ride on stationary bikes.

There were nine teams including: Super Best Buddies, Close Kings, ridewithus, Storm Cycles, The Boiz, Ghostbuster, Super Cyclers, The Chaingang, and Tied Dyed Divas. Each team had a unique theme such as super heroes, prisoners, cheerleaders, and tie dyed shirts. The staff had two teams: Storm Cycles and The Chaingang, which only increased student motivation to be a part of this fun event. An incredible team turn out from the Special Needs Department with a mix of special need students and their student buddies showed plenty of spirit riding to raise money for this cause. Many student volunteers cheered for their favourite teams, helped keep the equipment running, and supported the goal of raising money for a cure to help diminish childhood cancer.

As a first time event at Jean Vanier Catholic High School in Collingwood, there was plenty of enthusiasm and the school generously donated almost $3,000. The school’s namesake, Jean Vanier, has said that “we are not called by God to do extraordinary things, but to do ordinary things with extraordinary love”, and these teams and volunteers exemplified this quote by donating their time and money for an important cause.

Thank you to Ms. Hadley and Marian for leading the efforts to bring this event to Jean Vanier Catholic High School. Without the support of Student Leadership, the nine cycling teams, and the volunteers this event would not have been possible.
