Highlights – Board of Trustees’ Meeting – January 18, 2012

Opening Prayer – We Are Called

Trustees Francis Smith and Carol Corrieveau-Truchon led the trustees in the opening prayer for the meeting. The opening prayer, Gospel reading, reflection and closing prayer focused on Christ’s call to “come and see” and His role as teacher – a very fitting focus for Catholic education.

Inauguration of the Student Trustee

Student TrusteeDirector of Education Brian Beal led Emily Cecchetti, the Board’s Student Trustee-Elect, in her declaration and oath of allegiance. Emily is a Grade 10 student from Holy Trinity Catholic High School in Bradford West Gwillimbury. Her parents were present for her inauguration ceremony. Chair Clayton Ferguson and the other trustees welcomed Emily. Chair Ferguson also appointed Emily to the Policy Review Committee and the Special Education Advisory Committee.


Reports

Special Education Advisory Committee (SEAC) Membership

Superintendent of Programme and Services Jane Dillon-Leitch presented a report to the board on the membership for SEAC. The trustees approved the membership as presented.

Ontario Catholic School Trustees’ Association’s (OCSTA) – Annual General Meeting (AGM)

The board approved the establishing of an ad hoc OCSTA Resolution Committee of two trustees. Chair Clayton Ferguson appointed trustees Catherine MacDonald and Francis Smith to the committee.

Our Lady of the Assumption Boundary Review

Superintendent of Schools Ab Falconi presented a report on an expedited boundary review process in January/February given the planned closing of Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic School.

Board Policy Review Committee – Priorities 2012

Director of Education Brian Beal presented a report on the annual review of policies and the establishing of new policies and the procedural by-laws by the Board Policy Review Committee.
