Provincial Funding Supports New Building Projects

Our Board is receiving at total of $26,421,936 from the provincial government in order to support four new building projects. $11 million will go toward building additions at St. Peter's Catholic Secondary School and St. Joan of Arc Catholic High School both in Barrie, $12.4 will support the elementary school accommodation planning that is currently taking place in Orillia, and an additional $3 million is allocated for improvements and an expansion at Father F. X. O'Reilly School in Tottenham.

Father F. X. O'Reilly Catholic School

Plans are currently underway for the expansion and improvements at Father F. X. O'Reilly Catholic School in Tottenham. The proposed $3,846,138 project, includes an expansion of the school with two Kindergarten classrooms, six additional classrooms, custodial storage, a custodian office and an exterior Kindergarten play area. There will also be improvements/renovations made to the existing school including a new main entrance and chapel. In keeping with our board's commitment to "green" schools and energy conservation, sustainable design strategies will be used throughout the project. Construction is anticipated to be completed in the spring of 2011.

St. Joan of Arc Catholic High School
JOA Addition
The new construction plans at St. Joan of Arc consist of a two storey addition located at the northeast corner of the school, a one storey addition located at the east side of the building, a two storey addition located at the southeast corner and a one storey addition located at the north side of the building. The new additions total 19,587 square feet.

These new additions consist of a Cosmetology Classroom, a Hospitality Classroom, 10 Classrooms, Gym Storage, a Dance Classroom and expanding the existing Manufacturing Technology to include Transportation Technology.

There will 3,221 square feet of renovated space within the school, consisting of a renovation to the existing Family Studies Room into a Co-curricular Classroom, dividing the existing oversized Chaplain’s office into a Chaplain’s Office and a Seminar Room, converting the existing Dark Room into Digital Photography, adding Teacher’s Workstations in the existing Staff Room and adding a demonstration desk to convert an existing Classroom into a General Science Classroom.

The estimated completion date for this project is spring 2011.

St. Peter's Catholic Secondary School


New construction at St. Peter's Catholic Secondary School consists of a two storey addition located on the north side of the school and a small one storey addition at the east side of the building totaling 17,363 sq.ft.

The new addition consists of a Dance Classroom, a Fitness Room, Gym Storage, 8 Classrooms and a Student Success Area. The renovated areas, 4,155 sq.ft., consist of renovating and expanding an existing Classroom into a Transportation Technology Classroom, renovating the existing Fitness Room into a Cosmetology Classroom and renovating the existing Music Room into a Theatre Arts/Vocal Music Classroom. An exterior fenced compound will also be included in the design adjacent to the existing Construction Technology Classroom to allow for the introduction of the Enviro Technology Programme.

The estimated completion date for this project is spring 2011.
